Article by Turan�s Correspondent Wins EU Competition

Baku / 15.01.18 / The Delegation of the European Union in Azerbaijan has recognized the article by the agency Turan under the heading To Europe through Culture as the winner.

The competition was dedicated to the results of the European Film Festival, held in Baku in November 2017.

The prize for the victory is the trip for the author, journalist Emil Guliyev, to the Berlin Film Festival, which will be held in February 2018.

The results of the contest were announced on the eve of the event on the basis of the 2017 results.

The EU Delegation also publicly presented a report on the work done last year. In particular, last year the EU mission in Azerbaijan held Euro Tours to Lankaran and Sheki, where meetings were organized with students studying in the regions and representatives of the public, and cultural events were designed to acquaint the public with European culture.

Within the past year, the representative office hosted the Imagine Tolerance Festival and the European Film Festival.

The Delegation of the EU together with Asan Radio launched a series of programs Avropadasan (You Are in Europe) and created the website Sizin Avropa (Your Europe), through which the public gets acquainted with European values, generally accepted principles in Europe and other news about the old continent.

Speaking at the event, the head of the EU mission in Azerbaijan, Ambassador Kestutis Jankauskas, said the European Union intends to continue dynamic cooperation with Azerbaijan in 2018.

"Currently, negotiations are underway on a new agreement between Azerbaijan and the EU. Negotiations are held at a good level," he said.

The Ambassador noted that at the final stage there are also negotiations between the parties on the aviation agreement.

The Ambassador reminded that 2018 was announced in Azerbaijan the year of the Azerbaijan People's Republic and the EU mission for its part will also celebrate this date.

Kestutis Jankauskas noted that in 2018 the representation will continue holding cultural and social events aimed at bringing Azerbaijan and the EU closer together. -71D-
