Ali Insanov: "Ruthless persecution against me continues"
Baku / 16.01.18 / Turan: Former Health Minister of Azerbaijan Ali Insanov assessed the decision of the Supreme Court, which upheld the conviction of him as execution of a political order. "For 13 years now, ruthless reprisals against me have continued. Today the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan has confirmed the decision of the Baku Court of Appeal against me, based on false, biased and libelous accusations. Such decisions are aimed at breaking my will, but they will not be able to force me to turn from the right path," says Insanov's statement, published by his lawyer Togrul Babaev.
On January 16, the Supreme Court upheld the verdict against Insanov on a new criminal case.
* Insanov was arrested in October 2005 on charges of attempted coup d'état. However, he was sentenced to 11 years of imprisonment for economic crimes. In October 2016, 56 days before the end of the term of imprisonment, new charges were brought against him - possession of drugs and resistance to the representative of power. In April 2016, he was imprisoned for another seven years, and the Court of Appeal upheld the sentence.
On March 14, 2013, the European Court ruled on the unfair condemnation of Ali Insanov in the first case. But the judicial system of Azerbaijan left the verdict in force during the second trial.-03B06-

In the annals of Azerbaijan's oil-rich history, the name Witold Zglenicki may not readily come to mind, yet his contributions to the burgeoning oil industry of the late 19th and early 20th centuries are profound and enduring. As the Polish Embassy in Azerbaijan recently commemorated his legacy on April 22 with the presentation of a book detailing his remarkable life, questions arise about why this towering figure remains largely overlooked in the streets and monuments of Baku.
