Baku/16.02.22/Turan: The selection of participants in the Democracy Forum was carried out with consideration of the state of democracy in a particular country. “We hope that in the future Azerbaijan will be among the participants, but this requires some progress on issues such as fundamental freedoms, opportunities for civil society, respect for human rights,” US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Lee Litzenberger said at a briefing on Wednesday.
When asked why Armenia was invited to the forum and Azerbaijan was not invited, the diplomat noted that the invitation depended on the availability of certain democratic reforms. This did not depend on the country's membership in a particular military or political organization. -02B-

A new mass grave has been discovered in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan, in the village of Malybeyli in the Khojaly region. The remains of at least six people were found on April 24 during construction and restoration work, the Prosecutor General's Office and the State Commission for Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons of Azerbaijan said in a joint statement.
