Armed Incident on Azerbaijani-Iranian Border
Baku / 10.03.19 / Turan: On Sunday, early in the morning an attempt was undertaken to violate the border of Azerbaijan from Iran. As a result of preventing the illegal border crossing, an Azerbaijani border guard was killed, and another was wounded.
As the press service of the State Border Service reported, in the morning at
06:50 March 10, an attempt was made to break the state border of Azerbaijan on the service territory of the Horadiz border detachment near the village of Bala Bahmanli of the Fizuli region.
In particular, the border detachment found armed men approaching from Iran. Disobeying the legal requirements and warning shots, the border intruders opened fire on the border guards.
As a result of the shootout, Sergeant Sakhavet Mammadov and
soldier Vidadi Jabrayilov were wounded. Despite the urgent evacuation of the wounded to hospital, it was impossible to save Sakhavet Mammadov's life. The criminals did not manage to break the state border, and they fled back.
By order of the head of the State Border Service, Sakhavet Mammadov and Vidadi
Jabrayilov were awarded medals "For the merits in the military service" third degree. Mammadov was awarded posthumously.
Necessary measures are being taken upon the occurrence together with the Military Prosecutor"s Office. A criminal case has been initiated. -06D--
