Azerbaijan rating in the ranking of democracy lowered
Baku / 10.01.18 / Turan: The British magazine "The Economist" published the annual ranking of countries in terms of democracy in them compiled by the editors ("The Index of Democracy 2018"). In 2018 Azerbaijan was again included a group of authoritarian states, and it moved down one step from 148th to 149th.

The index was determined in five categories: the electoral process and pluralism; civil liberties; government functioning; political participation; political culture.
Countries are divided into four types: full democracy; defective democracy; hybrid democracy, and authoritarian regime.
The top ten democratic countries include Norway, Iceland, Sweden, New Zealand, Denmark, Canada and Ireland, Finland, Austria, and Switzerland.
Closes the list of 167 countries of Chad, Congo, Central African Republic, Syria, North Korea
The list of states with hybrid democracy includes Ukraine, Albania, Moldova, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Montenegro and Georgia.
Russia dropped by nine positions, and now ranks the 144th. It is attributed to the countries where reigns the "authoritarian regime". In the same group are Azerbaijan (149) and Iran (150).
Official structures in Azerbaijan did not comment on the country's place in the democracy rating.
