ECHR to announce four decisions on cases from Azerbaijan
Baku/15.04.21/Turan: The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) on April 22 will announce decisions on four complaints from Azerbaijan. Lawyer Khalid Agaliyev told Turan that the applicants in these cases are journalists: Avaz Zeynalli, Elchin Hasanov, activist Bakhtiyar Hajiyev and Huseyn Abdulvahabov, who is serving a life sentence. Avaz Zeynalli appealed against his arrest and imprisonment on charges of accepting a bribe from ex-MP Gular Ahmedova.
The journalist denied the charges. He asks to recognize the violation of his rights under Article 5 (right to liberty and security of person); Article 6 (right to a fair trial; Article 8 (respect for private life) and Article 10 (freedom of expression) of the European Convention.
Journalist Elchin Hasanov complained about his arrest during the filming of a peaceful rally and beating by police officers. He believes that Article 3 (prohibition of torture and inhuman treatment) of the European Convention on Human Rights.
Bakhtiyar Hajiyev in his complaint points to the unlawful detention and detention in the Ganja police. He also asks to admit a violation of Article 3 of the European Convention. Abdulvahabov, found guilty of creating a criminal community, abductions and murders, claims that his criminal prosecution was unfair. –16D06-
