The 26th anniversary of the occupation of Agdam
Baku/07.23.19/Turan: Today is the 26th anniversary of the occupation of Agdam region, located in the eastern part of Karabakh.
On July 23, 1993, the Armenian armed forces occupied most of the Agdam region.
In particular, 846.8 square meters of the total 1094 square meters have been occupied. The enemy captured the city of Agdam and 80 of the 124 villages of the region. Because of the occupation, material damage for 13 billion 135 million dollars was caused. Of the 160 thousand inhabitants of the district, 143 thousand became forced migrants in their own country. The occupants destroyed numerous monuments of history, culture and architecture. The Armenians destroyed the unique museum of bread - the only one in the former USSR and the second in the world. In the battles with the enemy since the beginning of the Karabakh conflict and before the occupation, 6 thousand inhabitants of Agdam were killed. Agdam fell because of the struggle for power, confusion and chaos into which the country plunged because of a military insurgency in June 1993, Colonel Suret Huseynov and the subsequent overthrow of President Abulfaz Elchibey. -06D-
