Consideration of Ilgar Mammadovs Appeal Postponed to March 28
Baku / 05.02.19 / Turan: Consideration of the cassation appeal in the case of the leader of the REAL party Ilgar Mammadov has been postponed to February 28.
This decision was made today by the judges of the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan, chaired by Ahmad Nurmammedov.
The reason for the postponement of the meeting was the earlier submission by the defense of additions to the cassation appeal.
State prosecutor Shovdat Mehraliyev asked for time to familiarize himself with the additions of the injured party.
However, lawyer Fuad Agayev noted that the additions were insignificant.
However, the judge decided to postpone the meeting to March 28.
The defense believes that such a long break in the proceedings is unjustified and regards it as a deliberate delay of the proceedings.
Recall that lawyer Fuad Agayev back in October 2018 submitted to the Supreme Court a cassation complaint against the last decision of the Sheki Appeal Court of August 13 in the case of REAL party leader Ilgar Mammadov. The complaint raises the question of the full justification of Mammadov.
Recall that Ilgar Mammadov was sentenced to 7 years in prison on charges of organizing mass riots in the town of Ismayilli in January 2013.
However, the court did not prove his guilt, and the international community recognized him as a political prisoner. Despite the two decisions of the European Court of Human Rights, the authorities have long refused to release it.
On August 13, 2018, the Sheki Appeals Court released Mammadov on parole with a two-year probationary period. -D06-
