Media Review November 13, 2019
The issue of attracting tourists to the country, the distribution of state grants, and commentary on Lavrov’s statements in Yerevan are topics of today's media.
The newspaper Azerbaijan writes about negotiations with the Chinese side to attract more tourists to Azerbaijan.
According to the chairman of the State Agency for Tourism Fuad Nagiyev, in December last year, the official representative office of the Azerbaijan Tourism Bureau was opened in China. The presence of direct airlines between the countries and a simplified visa regime for Chinese citizens expand the possibilities of visiting Azerbaijan. For 10 months of this year, Chinese visits to Azerbaijan increased by 64%.
The website Musavat. com writes that state grants are distributed opaquely. The budget for 2020 provides for the allocation of grants for 409.4 million manats, which is 1.5% of budget expenditures. Next year, 6 times more money will be allocated for these purposes. However, not all NGOs can use these grants.
The Bizimyolinfo.az website discusses statement by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Yerevan in connection with the Karabakh issue. This statement does not comply with the mediation mission of Russia and international law. If such a statement were made by any other state, Russia would accuse it of disrespect for the rule of international law.
Lavrov’s expression “The Karabakh people” does not correspond to any ethnographic, historical, or geographical concepts. There is a concept of the population of Karabakh, which includes Azerbaijanis.
Lavrov’s statement is a demarche against Azerbaijan.
