Well-known Lawyer Detained at Baku Airport
Baku / 22.08.18 / Turan: The Border Guard Service detained a prominent lawyer Irada Javadova at the Baku airport on Wednesday, August 22, when she was going to fly from Baku to Istanbul.
"A border service official told me that my departure was forbidden. He did not explain who specifically forbade the departure. I cannot understand what is happening and why I have been banned from leaving. I'm flying out with my daughter, and she has been allowed to pass, but I'm not. Nobody explains anything," she said to Turan in an embarrassed tone.
Turan's attempt to get a comment in the Border Service failed.
However, half an hour after the detention and negotiations of the border guards with their bosses, the lawyer was allowed to depart. This happened after border guards conducted her personal search and interrogated her with bias about the purposes of her trip.
"I will not forgive it and on my return I will seek punishment for those who unlawfully detained me, violating my rights and injuring my health and embarrassing my child, who also suffered severe stress," Javadova said.
Recall that Irada Javadova was previously among the members of civil society interrogated in the so-called criminal case against 40 NGOs of the country, which was opened in 2014 and has not yet been closed. --0----
