Are Karabakh Armenians playing Moscow's game?
Baku/31.10.22/Turan: On October 30, the so-called parliament of Karabakh held an extraordinary meeting, where it adopted a statement that contradicts the agreements reached earlier between Baku and Yerevan. We are talking about the five principles of the settlement proposed by Baku and adopted by Yerevan. One of these principles is the recognition of each other's territorial integrity.
However, the statement of the "parliament" says that Karabakh "has never been and will never be a part of independent Azerbaijan."
It further states that the Armenian authorities “have no right to decline from ensuring the security of the Armenians of Karabakh” or to recognize any document that questions the “sovereignty” of Karabakh.
The statement calls on Russia to ensure the security of Karabakh and "introduce additional political and military mechanisms."
On the same day, a rally was held in Khankyandi, in which up to 10.000 people took part. Among the participants of the rally was the Russian businessman Ruben Vardanyan, who has recently been appointed the "state minister" of Karabakh.
Official Baku has not yet reacted to what is happening.
Thus, the leaders of the Karabakh Armenians are throwing down a simultaneous challenge not only to Baku, but also to Yerevan, which had previously officially declared that it was unable to ensure the security of the Armenians of Karabakh.
Judging by the surge of expectations, the Armenians of Karabakh hope that Moscow is ready to take on the mission of recognizing their independence, or at least a special status outside of Azerbaijan.
Similar expectations come from the pro-Russian forces in Armenia, who claim that the Russian version of the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict implies just that.
How justified these expectations will be shown today's meeting in Sochi between the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia. -02D-

Nevertheless, he continues his hunger strike, demanding the termination of the fabricated criminal case against him, even if it costs him his life," Sadigova said.
