"Molokan prayer house" is given the status of a historical monument
Baku/03.08.19/Turan: By the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers on August 2, 2001, the Cabinet made changes to the resolution on approval the separation of immovable monuments of history and culture, taken under the protection of the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the degree of their importance.
According to the document, a prayer house (built in 1913), located at the St..S.Rustam, 10 and a mosque located at the intersection of the streets R.Rza, 34 and A.Aslanov, 85 were included in the list of monuments of local importance.
The building at S. Rustam, 10 is known as the Molokan Prayer House. For many for years it was in a poor state until it was rented in early 2019 by the non-profit cinema "Salaam Cinema Baku".
The building was repaired, and there began screening films and other cultural events. However, in early May the owner of the building demanded to empty the building, declaring the decision to demolish the building.
Representatives of non-profit cinema "Salaam Cinema Baku" and volunteers refused to leave, urging the public to prevent the demolition of the architectural building. They got up on protection of the object, and started round-the-clock duty. Civil society activists supported them.
The situation is calmed after the statement of the first vice-president of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva that the building will not be demolished. The fate of the building and its functional use remains unclear. Currently the second floor of the building is l used by the "Salaam Cinema Baku" .- 06D--
