Armenian Activists Began Blocking Courts at Pashinyans Appeal
Baku / 20.05.19 / Turan: After the call of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, activists began to block courts in the morning.
In particular, the entrance to the court building in Yerevan, by a decision of the judge of which on Saturday ex-president Robert Kocharian was released from custody, is blocked. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also came to the crowd, greeting them.
The entrances to the buildings of other courts in Yerevan, including the Constitutional Court, are also blocked.
According to local media, in some cases, activists smashed windows and expelled judges.
"Our government and I do not need the power of the people of the puppet court," Pashinyan said live on his Facebook page.
The opposition criticized Pashinyan"s appeal, calling it unconstitutional. The former ruling Republican Party of Armenia has condemned "unprecedented pressure on the judicial system."
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in his address called for judicial reform. According to him, in the country only two legitimate branches of government exist - the executive and the legislative, and the third - the judiciary, remains under the influence of the former corrupt system. "The time has come for an operative intervention," the Prime Minister said.
Pashinyan, in particular, noted that all judges should be checked for their political connections, property, and so on. All judges, whose sentences were declared illegal by the European Court of Human Rights, and those who cannot act impartially, must resign.
Pashinyan also stated the vital necessity of introducing transitional justice, which must be implemented within one or two months. If for this it is necessary to change the Constitution, then this must be done. -0-
