EU and OSCE may worsen the situation of Karabakh Armenians – expert
Baku/17.04.21/Turan: If the European structures show disrespect for the national interests of Azerbaijan, and ignoring the country's sovereignty, negotiate with the separatists, then Baku can "recoup" the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh, when solving their electricity and gas supply. This is the opinion of the political analyst Farhad Mammadov, commenting on the protest of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry in connection with the negotiations of the EU special representative Toivo Klaar with the "Foreign Minister of Karabakh" David Babayan on April 14.
"Before the victory in the war, we could not influence the life of Armenians in Karabakh, but now, when the natural resources of the region and infrastructure are under the control of Baku, the socio-economic opportunities for the residence of the Karabakh Armenians are controlled by Azerbaijan. The more respectful the attitude of the EU and other international structures will be to us, the tougher the attitude of Baku towards the Karabakh Armenians can be," Mammadov said.
He called the statement of the Foreign Ministry “expected”, because the Armenians of Karabakh should not have illusions about their status, he noted.
“The OSCE Chairman-in-Office, the OSCE Minsk Group and the EU Special Representative demonstrate that military realities do not accept the post. We must convince them to correctly assess geopolitical realities,” Mammadov said.
It would be correct to reduce the level of meetings with the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs to the level of the heads of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry. There is no need for the President and the Foreign Minister to meet with the co-chairs, as the former relevance in the activities of the OSCE Minsk Group is no longer there, he believes. -0-

During the winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) that opened today in Strasbourg, the issue of restoring Azerbaijan's voting rights will not be considered. This became clear after the Azerbaijani parliament did not submit a request to PACE for the reinstatement of its delegation's powers. Recall that Azerbaijan was deprived of its voting rights in PACE in January of the previous year.
