Head of State Security on Ganja Events
Baku / 14.11.18 / Turan: In connection with the riots in Ganja in July this year, more than 60 people were arrested, and five were eliminated while providing armed resistance. This was stated on November 14 by the head of the State Security Service (SSS) of Azerbaijan, Madat Guliyev, speaking at the XXI meeting of the Conference of Special Services of Turkic-speaking States in Bishkek.
Speaking about the attempts of a number of international terrorist organizations to exacerbate the socio-political situation in Azerbaijan, Guliyev noted that these religious-extremist organizations from the Middle East, Iraq and Syria are striving to create their own cells in Azerbaijan.
The events in Ganja were a vivid manifestation of the unlawful actions of religious radicals and extremists who sought to destabilize the social and political situation in the second largest city of Azerbaijan.
More than 60 people were arrested while suppressing these actions, another five were eliminated while providing armed resistance. International cooperation and collective measures are needed to prevent the spread of terrorist activities and religious extremism. In this sense, it is important that the security agencies and the secret services of the Turkic-speaking countries interact, Guliyev said.
Recall that on July 3, 2018, a native of Ganja, Yunis Safarov, wounded head of the city of Elmar Veliyev and his bodyguard with firearms. A week later, riots occurred in the city, during which two police officers were killed. According to official sources, the disorder was committed by religious extremists. -05D06--
