Municipal elections scheduled for December 23
Baku /18.10.19 / Turan: The next municipal elections in Azerbaijan are scheduled for December 23. This was announced at today's meeting of the CEC.
The CEC press service told Turan that the elections will be held for 15156 seats in 1606 municipal councils in 118 constituencies.
The municipal elections in Azerbaijan are held every five years.
The previous elections for 15035 seats in 1607 municipalities were held on December 23, 2014. Voting results in eight municipalities were canceled.
The powers of municipal authorities in Azerbaijan are extremely limited.
All management powers are practically concentrated in the executive branch. - 06D--

On February 3, the trial of public activist Nijat Ibrahim will begin in the Baku Serious Crimes Court. This decision was made on Wednesday at a preparatory hearing by Judge Aygun Gurbanova. According to lawyer Zibeida Sadigova, Ibrahim was taken to court in handcuffs. There were guards sitting next to him throughout the whole process.
