Pashinyan Scares with Islamic Terrorism and Believes Moscow Not to Allow War in Karabakh
Baku / 05/18/19 / Turan: The escalation in Nagorno-Karabakh may lead Islamists fleeing Iraq and Syria to our region, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at a meeting with Russian journalists on Friday.
"You see how tense the situation has become around Iran, and this tension continues to grow. In Syria, there are a large number of militants of Islamic radical groups. They understand that they no longer have a place in Syria and Iraq. According to our information, they are now looking for a new place for themselves. If a new escalation occurs in our region, it will be a good reason for them to appear, for example, in Azerbaijan. For them, this is a very convenient point from which they can deploy their actions in the direction of Iran, Russia, the South Caucasus and Central Asia," Radio Liberty quotes Pashinyan.
According to him, the new war in Karabakh will no longer be local, and he hopes that this is understood in Russia, Azerbaijan, and Iran. He expressed confidence that Moscow will become a guarantor of the fact that the Karabakh conflict will be resolved exclusively by peaceful means. According to him, Russia has all the necessary levers that will prevent a new escalation. "I cannot believe that when needed, the Russians do not use these levers," he stressed. -02D-
