Administrative Arrest of Religious Figure Detained at Border
Baku / 13.11.18 / Turan: The chairman of the Supreme Religious Muslim Board of All Georgia Mirtagi Asadov, who was detained at the border of Azerbaijan on November 7, is accused of committing administrative violations. This was reported to Radio Azadlig by his spouse Shahane Hajiyeva. According to her, Mirtagi Asadov was arrested for 30 days; the arrest was authorized on November 8 by the Narimanov court of the capital.
The protocol drawn up by the police says that Georgian citizen Mirtagi Asadov on November 8, 2018 near house No. 43 on A. Alizade Street at 12:30 pm was loudly swearing on the phone with swear words, not obeying the lawful demand of the police. In respect of Asadov, a protocol was drawn up on articles of the Code of Administrative Offenses: 535.1 (insubordination to the lawful demands of the police) and 510 (petty hooliganism).
The protocol on administrative violation was drawn up by the officer of the Directorate General for Combating Organized Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Ikhtiyar Rustamov. The court chaired by the judge Samir Mammadov considered that the report in the protocol was confirmed at the meeting. Shahane Hajiyeva does not agree with the decision, and the lawyers will appeal.
Mirtagi Asadov refused the citizenship of Azerbaijan two years ago, but his family lives in Azerbaijan, where Assadov comes to visit them. -0-

On January 29, municipal elections were held in Azerbaijan, with over 16,000 candidates participating across 118 constituencies. The Central Election Commission (CEC) has already announced the names of the leading candidates on its website. Hours after the election, CEC Chairman Mazahir Panahov stated at a briefing that 413 out of 685 municipalities had already been formed, with 7,791 candidates identified as leaders.
