Birthday - the day of memory of Elmar Huseynov (Video)

On July 17 democratic public of Azerbaijan marked the birthday  of Elmar Huseynov , the chief editor of the "Monitor" magazine; he would be 49-years-old today.

We came here today once again  to say that the murder of Elmar Huseynov, committed  on March 2, 2005, will not remain unpunished, and  we are closer than ever to the disclosure of the true names of the masterminds and perpetrators of the crime," said Shahbaz Khuduoglu, the head of the publishing house" Qanun ".

Head of the Centre "Strategic Thought" Isa Gambar, noted a huge impact on the heritage of Elmar Huseynov on the freedom of speech in Azerbaijan, has led a parallel with the situation in Turkey, where a free  social media played a crucial role in the protection of democratic institutions and the failure of the military coup. Gambar called on the Azerbaijani authorities to reconsider the situation and to stop the pressure on the press and the suppression of freedom of speech in Azerbaijan.

"The Azerbaijani authorities have to realize that  the day will come when the public will be free, and will come  to  the tombstone of Elmar will come thousands of people free from harmful ties that bind and paralyze society, said Arif Hajily, the head of the party " Musavat ".

The strength and greatness of Elmar is that 10 years after his murder, the Azerbaijani society has witnessed the crisis tendencies and events that he foretold, and of which he  consistently wrote as a journalist and a citizen, despite the threats and promises.

"We know that at that time  he met with high-ranking officials, and they promised the country a bright future, and his place in the sun, but he  rejected these assurances, repeatedly warning of the error development of the country, imposed by the current regime," said the director of Turan agency Mehman Aliyev, noting that Elmar’s prediction proved to be  prophetic, and will have a logical end.

The former political prisoner, editor of "Khural" newspaper Avaz Zeynalov said that a free press in Azerbaijan today continues to struggle getting strength from the heritage of Elmar. "There are not many of us, but our word is right. Therefore, society is doomed to victory over authoritarianism,” he said.

At an impromptu meeting voiced congratulations to the address of a free press in Azerbaijan, which is  devotion to the ideas of the founders of the national press - Zardabi, Rasulzade, Agayev and many other media on the eve of the Day, which is celebrated on 22 July.

On March 2, 2005 evening  Elmar Huseynov was shot four times in  his apartment building in Baku, where he lived with his family. He  had a wife and young son. Elmar was  awarded various awards, recognized as the best journalist, best editor.  The power repeatedly filed lawsuits against him, threatened, applied  judicial sanctions, even  an imprisonment.-0-
