Elman Guliyev Announced Attempt to Recruit Him in Police Custody
Baku / 02.08.19 / Turan: On August 2, The Baku Court of Appeal chaired by Faig Gasimov considered the appeal of the head of the youth organization of the Musavat Party, Elman Guliyev.
He was detained on July 29 during a rally in defense of the rights of the arrested activist of the Musavat party, Azad Hasanov.
On the same day, by the decision of the Nasimi district court, Guliyev was arrested for 30 days. The court found him guilty under Article 535.1 (not subordinating to the legitimate demands of the police representative) of the Code of Administrative Offenses.
During the proceedings in the appellate court, lawyer Osman Kazimov petitioned to view videos of the protest action.
The lawyer believes that the videos are objective evidence, and they will reveal the truth.
"The video shows that Elman Guliyev and others did not violate the law. On the contrary, the employees themselves are rude to people," said the lawyer.
Judge Gasimov did not satisfy the petition.
In his speech, Guliyev rejected the offense imputed to him.
The activist also said that in the 21st precinct of the Nasimi district police his rights to defense were violated, and he was not provided with a lawyer.
This was continued in court, where he was also deprived of a lawyer of choice.
Guliyev also said that in the isolation ward a man appeared to him who introduced himself as a colonel of the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. He was offered cooperation for a good salary and other opportunities.
When Guliyev rejected the proposal, the security official began to threaten him that, at the end of the administrative arrest, he would be charged with a criminal case and sent to custody for a long time.
In connection with this, the lawyer Kazimov asked the court to make a decision on enhancing Guliyev"s security so that outsiders no longer come to him in the detention center.
However, the judge did not satisfy this petition, as well as the complaint itself. -16d-
