Security and Defense Sector of Azerbaijan Lost Twenty People in 2019
Baku / 07.22.19 / Turan: From the beginning of 2019, the loss of life of the security and defense sector of Azerbaijan amounted to 20 servicemen. This is stated in the report of the Institute of Caspian Military Studies (ICMS).
Five soldiers of the Azerbaijani army died on the line of contact with the Armenian Armed Forces from enemy bullets.
As for non-combat casualties, 1 military died from diseases, and 2 died as a result of accidents (frostbite).
Another 4 soldiers lost their lives for unknown reasons, two died in car accidents, 4 - from the rupture of mines and shells, and 1 committed suicide.
Another soldier died during an exchange of fire with trespassers.
18 people served in the Ministry of Defense, and 2 - in the State Border Service.
In 2019, 12 soldiers were injured. Two were injured by the enemy"s bullet, eight were hit by mines, one was fired by a border intruder, and one was wounded in unclear circumstances.
According to the head of ICMS, Jasur Sumerinli, the number of casualties has increased over the same period last year (there were 15, including 2 combat).
"The army theme" remains closed to Azerbaijani society. Only certain journalists are allowed in military units. The overall policy is to conceal negative developments in the defense and security sector," said Sumerinli.
