Supporters of the National Council were detained while visiting the Alley of Martyrs
Baku/20.01.19/Turan: During a visit to the Alley of Martyrs (Martyrs) on January 20, an incident occurred between supporters of the National Council and the police. Police detained a lot of people. According to eyewitnesses of the incident, the police detained for two hours thousands of supporters of the National Council at the beginning of Parliament Avenue, who were going to the Alley of Martyrs to pay tribute to the memory of those who fell for the freedom of Azerbaijan. After two hours, they were still not allowed into the Alleyof Martyrs, and after that the incident took place.
The head of the PFPA Ali Kerimli spoke in defense of the blogger Mehman Huseynov called on to visit the Alley of Martyrs on January 20 at the rally on January 19. After today's incident, the head of the PFPA, Ali Kerimli, told Turan that they did not even think of holding a rally at the Alley of Martyrs.
"We will definitely visit the Alley of Martyrs to express our respect for our martyrs. People gathered near the Azizbekov circle and waited there for about two hours. After that, the tension increased because they were not allowed into the Alley. The participants began to chant "Shehids are immortal, homeland is indivisible." At that moment, the special purpose police and the rapid reaction regiment were mobilized. The people who came to visit the Alley were divided into small groups and were not allowed to go to the Alley. Me, the leadership of the National Council in the group of 150 people were let to the Alley of Martyrs. And then the group was again divided and they started to let in 15-20 people," said Ali Kerimli. He believes that the authorities were afraid of great number of people at yesterday"s rally.
"It seems that Ilham Aliyev instructed them, fearing the power of yesterday"s rally. They toldpoeple there will be no opposition, they the opposition appeared before ten thousand people. Now the police were instructed to isolate people, to create conditions for Ali Kerimli to visit the Shekhids Alley with 15 people. And the whole operation was carried out for this. This is how people are treated with disrespect. However, it is not our fault, and the boomerang effect will hit the regime itself," said the chairman of the Popular Front Party.
The official structures did not disseminate information in connection with the incident. According to the PFPA, some activists have been released, at least 10 people are currently in police custody. --03B-
