The court refused to transfer Afgan Mukhtarly under house arrest
Baku / 20.06.17 / Turan: Today the Nasimi district court examined the petition for changing the measure of restraint to the journalist Afgan Mukhtarly - arrest for house arrest. A lawyer Elchin Sadigov told Turan, a member of the investigation group of the Directorate of Grave Crimes of the Prosecutor General's Office Hasan Nagiyev opposed the petition. He said that in case of liberation Mukhtarli could flee the country. The court rejected the motion.
Mukhtarli was kidnapped on May 29 in Tbilisi and secretly sent to Azerbaijan, where he was arrested.
He is accused of illegal crossing the border, smuggling, the use of violence against the border guard. He rejects accusations. The European Parliament adopted a resolution on the Mukhtarly case and demanded his release. -16D06-
