Verdict on Kelbajar People Incompetent (UPDATED)
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman stated the "incompetence" of the court and the sentence imposed by Karabakh separatists on two Kelbajar people, Dilgam Askerov and Shahbaz Guliyev.
"This so-called trial organized in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan cannot be a legal framework and its decision has no legal force," said in particular the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Hikmet Hajiyev.
He noted that Askerov and Guliyev were taken hostage by Armenian armed forces during a visit to the graves of their parents in their native land, which is an internationally recognized territory of the Azerbaijan Republic, and Hasan Hasanov, who was with them, was brutally murdered.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman announced Armenia responsible for "taking civilians as hostages, the use of torture against them and organization of a rigged trial over them" in violation of international law.
In the view of Hajiyev, "international institutions and the public should demand from Armenia, which grossly, systematically and massively violates human rights, the immediate release of Askerov and Guliyev, as well as a report on the fate of more than four thousand missing Azerbaijanis."
However, he stressed that the contacts with the OSCE Minsk Group and international organizations to release Askerov and Guliyev are continued.
Recall that the former inhabitants of the Kelbajar district occupied by Armenians were arrested by Armenians in June and accused of sabotage. According to the Armenian side, Askerov, Guliyev and the third member of the group, Hasan Hasanov, were saboteurs, who killed two residents and wounded several others. During the shooting Hasanov was killed.
In the court Askerov and Guliyev said they wanted to visit their homes and the graves of the beloved ones. They did not recognize the charges against them.-16D-
