Baku / 10.05.19 / Turan: The Press Council of Azerbaijan appealed to the State Security Service (SSS) with a request to speed up the investigation into the murder of Elmar Huseynov, the editor of the "Monitor" magazine.
At the press conference on press freedom in Azerbaijan on May 3 the Press Council stated that leaders of a number of media outlets, experts and representatives of journalistic associations "agreed that the investigation into the murder of Elmar Huseynov on March 2, 2005, should be accelerated, and those who committed this crime should be soon found and punished.".
It is noteworthy that all these years, the Press Council stubbornly kept silent about this crime, and in extreme cases repeated the statement of the Prosecutor General"s Office that the murder had long been solved, but the criminals are abroad. At the same time, the names of Georgian citizens of Azerbaijani origin, Tahir Khubanov and Teimuraz Aliyev, were mentioned.
The appeal of the Press Council is for some reason addressed to the head of the State Security Service, Madat Guliyev, and not to the prosecutor general. -02D-
