State Security Service reports detention of foreigner for espionage
Baku/15.03.23/ Turan: The State Security Service reported on Wednesday the detention of a foreign national named Gaedi Mohammad Najaf oglu, born in 1994, who is accused of spying in the territory of Azerbaijan.
According to the same source, Gaedi was tasked by a foreign intelligence agency to collect information constituting a state secret in order to use it to the detriment of Azerbaijan's security. In particular, he was asked to provide personal information on Azerbaijani law enforcement officers, establish personal relations with them and involve them into secret cooperation with a foreign intelligence agency.
Gaedi Mohammad Najaf oglu was prosecuted under Article 276 (espionage) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan and under court decision he was arrested. Criminal investigations are ongoing.
It is not reported what country the arrested person is a citizen of and in whose interests he acted. However, judging by his name and appearance, he could be a citizen of Iran or Afghanistan. -02D-
