On October 20th I'll be travelling to Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Georgia to meet with my counterparts and other senior officials to advance American interests on a range of security issues.
According to a number of sources, the main purpose of the visit is to discuss the situation regarding the policies of Iran and Syria. Bolton is known for his tough stance against Tehran and Damascus and is expected to seek to dissuade Russia and the countries of the South Caucasus from supporting and cooperating with Iran and Syria.
Sources in Washington told Turan that the topic of discussion could be the question of the consequences of American sanctions against Iran for the countries of the South Caucasus. In this regard, the cooperation of Baku and Yerevan with Tehran may be the subject of discussion.
Washington has already imposed sanctions against a dozen Russian companies, officials and businessmen, for cooperating with Tehran. Similar steps can be taken with regard to the countries of the South Caucasus. However, there is no official announcement of the upcoming visit of Bolton. -02B-
