Elina Hajiyeva's Mother Calls on Court to Sentence Sevinj Abbasova to Heavy Punishment
Baku / 18.10.19 / Turan: At the trial in the case of the death of an 8th grade student of school number 162 of Baku, Elina Hajiyeva, the lawyers of the injured party made a closing speech.
At today's meeting in the Sabail District Court, the lawyers of the injured party disagreed with the prosecutor's proposal to sentence the accused, the former principal of the school, Sevinj Abbasova, to 2.5 years of restraint of liberty. The lawyers indicated that the principal, despite the critical condition of the teenager, did not call an ambulance for an hour and a half and did not allow others to do so.
The lawyers also supported the civil lawsuit of the injured party, requiring the Ministry of Education 100 thousand manat in compensation for moral damage and 8,500 manat for the services of lawyers.
The representative of the Ministry of Education said the lawsuit against this agency was unfounded.
The girl"s mother, Sevil Huseynova, asked the court to sentence the principal to the heaviest punishment provided for by the articles she was charged with. The trial will continue on October 24 at 11.00.
* On April 4, 2019, a school student Elina Hajiyeva jumped from the third floor of the school. A criminal case was filed under Art. 125 (suicide) of the Criminal Code.
Subsequently, the principal of the school, Sevinj Abbasova, was brought to justice. She was charged under articles 143 (leaving in danger) and 314.2 (negligence resulting in the death of the victim) of the Criminal Code. However, under article 125 (suicide), no one was held accountable. On October 16, the prosecutor proposed sentencing the former headmaster to 2.5 years in prison. -21B-
