Although the health condition of human rights defender Anar Mammadli, who is being held in Baku pre-trial detention centre-1, has further deteriorated, he is not receiving adequate medical care. This was reported to 'Turan' by lawyer Elchin Sadygov, who visited Mammadli in the pre-trial detention centre.

According to him, Mammadli has recently started experiencing severe dizziness. Despite the serious deterioration of Mammadli's health, he is denied proper treatment. At that, representatives of the penitentiary service were unavailable for comments.

*Anar Mammadli was detained on 29 April and charged on 30 April under Article 206.3.2 of the Criminal Code (smuggling committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy).

A number of international organisations as well as the US State Department called on the Azerbaijani government to immediately release Mammadli and others arrested. On 20 November, the court extended Mammadli's arrest for another 3 months.

Remind that Anar Mammadli is the head of the Centre for Election Monitoring and Democracy Studies, which focuses on electoral law. He is the author of critical reports on the elections in Azerbaijan, which is extremely irritating to the authorities.
