Steinar Gil: Azerbaijan Does Not Share Values of European Union
Baku / 14.11.18 / Turan: Former Ambassador of Norway to Azerbaijan Steinar Gil expressed his attitude towards Oslo"s decision to close the embassy in Baku and transfer it to Tbilisi.
He answered the request of the Turan agency on this occasion: "I think the answer to your question is given in the statement of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"Georgia opened an embassy in Oslo in 2012. In Georgia, it has always been easier for us to work, because it is actively pursuing reforms and sharing our values, which cannot be said about the current regime in Azerbaijan."
Recall that the decision of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway to close the embassy in Azerbaijan caused sharp criticism of official Baku, who said they did not regret this decision. It was further stated that the Norwegian Embassy and its former Ambassador were involved in interfering in internal affairs and allegedly Steinar Gil was planned to be expelled from the country, but he himself left.
Note that Gil worked as Ambassador to Baku 13 years ago. -02B-
