The term of arrest of Fikret Faramazoglu extended
Today, the Narimanov District Court extended for another three months, until January 30, the arrest of Fikret Faramazoglu, the editor of the site Jam.az, said the lawyer Elchin Sadigov. He said that the defense would appeal.
Faramazoglu was arrested on June 30, 2016 on charges of extortion by threats. According to the Interior Ministry, the journalist was detained at the time of taking 3.000 manat bribes from a businessman.
Last week the charges against him were tightened - "extortion by threats by a group of persons, and similar acts repeatedly for seizure of property."
On the first charge Faramazoglu faced up to five years in prison, but now - up to 10 years with confiscation of property. It should be noted that the site Jam.az has a reputation of the scandalous edition.—06B—
