Azimport to Repay Debt, Despite Difficulties
LLC Azimport, whose name became widely known to the public after the arrest of the director of the State Flag Square Rashad Mammadov, intends to restore its former glory and clean reputation. This is proved by payment of debts on wages and goods purchased at the expense of internal resources, Turan was told in the company.
PR Manager of Ltd Azimport Khanlar Mammadov noted that the debt was formed as a result of not timely payment of AZN 778,400 by SOCAR. The State Oil Company requested Azimport to repair a number of buildings in Baku, but it continues to delay payments on these contracts.
"At the expense of bank loans, the sale of certain fixed assets, as well as the offsetting (exchange for the apartment), the bulk of the debt has been repaid. Of these, 578,222 manat is debts on purchased materials," Mammadov said.
The share of wages accounted for 125,837 manat. Today, this amount dropped to 57.1 thousand manat.
Recall that Azimport is the executor of dozens of construction works in Baku. The opening of 40 of them was attended by President Ilham Aliyev.
"Black days" for the company came after its name, specifically its founder (Azer Asgarov) was used with the name of the director of the State Flag Square Rashad Mammadov. Media claimed that not Asgarov, but Mammadov was its real owner. This had a negative impact on the economic activity of LLC Azimport.
Ltd. Azimport is the customer of the construction project of the residential complex Panorama Park in Baku, consisting of 10 high-rise (19 floors) buildings. ---08B

In recent days, there have been claims that bread prices in Azerbaijan have risen. Social media users report that the price of bread has increased by 5-10 qepiks. According to consumer complaints, it is difficult to find weight information on factory-produced bread, commonly known as "zavod çörəyi" in Azerbaijan. In many cases, bread packaging does not include weight details. Similarly, bread sold at smaller bakeries and tandir houses often lacks information apart from the price.

Azerbaijan’s state-owned energy company, SOCAR, is deepening its engagement in international gas projects as it seeks to diversify supply routes to Europe. In January 2025, the company acquired a 10% stake in Israel’s Tamar gas field, which holds an estimated 300 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas. The field, located near the giant Leviathan deposit, is seen as a key source for expanding gas exports from the eastern Mediterranean.
