State Security Service: People Accused of Financing Terrorists in Syria Arrested
Baku / 23.11.18 / Turan: The State Security Service (SSS) of Azerbaijan reported on the detention of three individuals suspected of financing terrorists in Syria.
"The State Security Service has revealed secret funding for people involved in armed conflicts outside of Azerbaijan in the ranks of groups known as religious extremists and recognized by the UN as terrorists," the SSS Public Relations Department said.
According to the press release, the Azerbaijani citizens Ilgar Agayev, Sahil Ibrahimov, and Namig Mammadov contacted members of terrorist groups located in different countries, as well as relatives of militants fighting in Syria and in different ways provided money that was sent to militants in Syria.
"In general, the above-mentioned individuals in different ways ensured the delivery of more than $ 500 thousand to members of groups involved in the armed conflict in Syria," the report said.
A criminal case was initiated on the fact under articles 214-1 (financing of terrorism), 218.2 (participation in a criminal organization), and 283-1.3 (participation in armed conflicts outside of Azerbaijan) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
The individuals were arrested as a measure of restraint. -06D--

Journalist Nargiz Abaslamova, held in Baku's Detention Center No. 1, was subjected to violence by a guard. While passing by the cell of her colleague Sevinj Vagifgizi, Abaslamova tried to greet her, reported on Abzas Media's Facebook page. However, guard Aygul Babaeva forcibly dragged Abaslamova away and deeply scratched the journalist's arm. Abaslamova stated that this is not the first time the mentioned guard has used force and been rude to journalists. A few days ago, Babaeva also used force against Sevinj Vagifgizi.
