Court of Appeal Did Not Satisfy Complaint of Arrested PFPA Activists
Baku / 22.11.18 / Turan: On November 22, the Baku Court of Appeal considered the complaints of three activists of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) administratively arrested for 20 days.
Ruslan Amirov, Javid Ibrahimov and Agababa Jafarov were detained on November 17 during a visit to the Alley of Martyrs on the occasion of the National Revival Day. On November 19, the Sabayil District Court sentenced them to 20 days of administrative arrest on charges of violating the rules for holding marches.
During the proceedings on their complaints, members of the PFPA stated that their arrest was groundless and demanded their release. They indicated that there was nothing illegal in visiting the Alley of Martyrs, the PFPA press service told Turan.
The Baku Court of Appeal, however, dismissed the complaints and left the activists in custody. They intend to file a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights.
Recall that on November 17, during a collective visit to the Alley of Martyrs, 52 people were detained, including the leader of the Popular Front Party Ali Kerimli and the head of the National Council of Democratic Forces, Jamil Hasanli. Forty-one people were released the same evening.
On November 19, 11 activists appeared in court. Of these, three were arrested for 20 days, and eight more, including Ali Kerimli, were fined. -06D--
