Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry condemns US Senate resolution
Baku / 13.12.19. / Turan: The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry regarded the resolution on recognition of the so-called "Armenian genocide" adopted by the US Senate as an attempt to falsify history and political pressure.
“The resolution on recognition of the so-called“ Armenian genocide ”adopted by the US Senate is an attempt to falsify history and political pressure. The text of the resolution is contradictory from a scientific and historical point of view and is based on dubious sources,” said a spokeswoman for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Leyla Abdullayeva.
The document was unprofessionally prepared, biased, and serves the “dirty interests of the Armenian lobby,” she stressed.
History should be studied by historians on the principles of objectivity, an Azerbaijani diplomat added.
“The US Senate seeks to assess the fictitious events of a hundred years ago, but turns a blind eye to the ongoing military occupation of Azerbaijani territories by Armenia; ethnic cleansing of Azerbaijanis, the Khojaly genocide and this is a manifestation of double standards. In general, the resolution is biased and a document that has no legal basis,” the head of the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan further emphasizes.
On Thursday, US senators unanimously adopted a resolution recognizing and condemning the "Armenian genocide" in the Ottoman Empire.
Turkish Foreign Ministry condemned the resolution. "The adoption by the US Senate of a resolution on the so-called "Armenian genocide "is a shameful example of the politicization of history," the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement. —06D-
