Head of Azerkhalcha OJSC Arrested

Baku/09.01.21/Turan: A criminal case has been initiated against the chairman of the board of Azerkhalcha OJSC Vidadi Muradov, the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan said on Saturday.

According to the investigation, Muradov, having entered into a criminal conspiracy with other persons and allegedly for the purchase of threads for the production of carpets, by drawing up formal contracts, transferred funds in the amount of 3,435,000 manats to the bank accounts of several companies. Subsequently, from these funds, 1 million 149 thousand manats were returned to Muradov in cash.

Thus, by abusing his official powers, Muradov appropriated the indicated funds, thereby causing damage on a large scale to the property and other interests of the joint-stock company.

In addition, by introducing deliberately false information into official documents, Muradov committed an official forgery.

Along with this, reasonable suspicions arose that Muradov was selling carpets of Azerkhalcha OJSC to Azer-Ilme LLC, of which he is the founder, at a reduced price. At the same time, Muradov is charged with misappropriation of another 339,427 manats.

In addition, Muradov is charged with buying a wool production line for OJSC Azerkhalcha at overpriced prices.

Muradov was charged under Art. 179.4 (misappropriation on an especially large scale), 308.2 (abuse of office, which entailed grave consequences), and 313 (official forgery) of the Criminal Code and the court decided to arrest him as a preventive measure.

At present, the Main Department for Combating Corruption under the Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan continues operational and investigative measures to identify the persons involved in the crimes committed by officials of Azerkhalcha OJSC, as well as to determine and compensate for the damage caused to this OJSC.

Muradov is a member of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party. In 2016 he was awarded the Shohrat (Glory) order. —06D-
