Hearings on "Return to West Azerbaijan: legal aspects" held in Milli Majlis
Baku/25.09.23/Turan: The Milli Majlis held public hearings on "Return to West Azerbaijan: legal aspects" on 25 September.
During the discussions, Deputy Prosecutor General Elmar Jamalov said that 216 people were killed during the mass deportation of Azerbaijanis from Armenia in 1987-1991. Testimonies of close relatives of 30 of them were taken as witnesses.
Chairman of the "Western Azerbaijan" community Aziz Alekberli said that about 200.000 Azerbaijanis were expelled from 300 settlements.
According to him, the damage to private households of Azerbaijanis expelled from Armenia amounted to about $ 2.5 billions, and to public households - $17.5 billion.
During the hearings the legal aspects of the return of Azerbaijanis to their native places and issues of legal assessment of the crimes committed against Azerbaijanis in Armenia in 1987-1991 were also discussed. -21В-

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan published a set of proposals on his Facebook page aimed at establishing long-term peace in the region. Among them, he suggested that Azerbaijan should abandon mutual claims against Armenia, including in international courts. Other proposals include: refraining from using belligerent rhetoric, continuing the demarcation of borders, signing a peace agreement that is 90% ready, mutually implementing arms control, creating a joint mechanism to investigate violations of the ceasefire regime, and dissolving the OSCE Minsk Group.
