HRHF and OSCE Condemn Attack on Blogger Mehman Huseynov
Baku / 29.12.19 / Turan: The Norwegian Human Rights House Foundation condemned the ill-treatment of blogger Mehman Huseynov. The human rights organization called on the Azerbaijani authorities to quickly and thoroughly investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice.
This is stated in the statement of the organization, published on the microblog on Twitter.
The OSCE Special Representative for the Freedom of the Media, Arlem Desir, also expressed his concern over reports of police arrest and beating of a blogger.
“I am concerned about reports of last night’s detention and beating by police of the well-known blogger #MehmanHuseynov in Baku #Azerbaijan. I call on the authorities to conduct a swift and thorough investigation into this matter, and bring those responsible to justice,” he wrote on his micro blog on Twitter.
Huseynov was detained late on December 27 by police during a protest rally against the arrest of rapper Paster (Parviz Guluzadeh). He was taken out of town and severely beaten.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed the detention of Huseynov “for holding an uncoordinated action and violation of the rest of citizens”, but denied the fact of beating. —06B-
