The second meeting of the Security services of Azerbaijan and Armenia, preparation for the trilateral meeting

Baku / 10.01.21 / Turan: On January 10, the second meeting of the heads of the Security Services of Armenia and Azerbaijan took place in the last two days.

This time Armen Abazyan and Ali Nagiyev met at the territory adjacent to the villages of Vorotan and Shurnukh, on the border of the Gubadly region of Azerbaijan and the Syunik region of Armenia.

As reported by the press service of the National Security Service of Armenia, the issues of return and exchange of prisoners, as well as the search for the missing soldiers were discussed. The same source denied that another meeting would take place on the border of the Tavush region of Armenia and the Tovuz region of Azerbaijan.

On Friday evening, Abazyan and Nagiyev already met at the neutral land near the village Yeraskh of Ararat region of Armenia. The same source denies reports that territorial issues were discussed at the meeting.

Meanwhile, the press secretary of the Armenian prime minister Mane Gevorgyan confirmed on Sunday that a document could be signed following the January 11 meeting.

“In case of reaching agreements on economic issues, as well as around issues on the exchange of prisoners and missing persons, at a trilateral meeting of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in Moscow, it is possible to sign a joint statement on the results of the meeting, ”she said.

The agenda of the trilateral meeting includes issues of opening regional communications, international cargo transportation, including from Armenia to Russia and Iran, as well as from the central regions of Armenia to Syunik region - via the Nakhichevan railway, she said.

Without resolving the issue of returning prisoners and rescue of Armenian soldiers in the Azerbaijani rear, "it will be extremely difficult to effectively discuss the economic agenda," Gevorkian added.

“There are no plans to sign a document in Moscow on the settlement of the Karabakh problem or any territorial issue. If it is possible to reach agreement on the agenda items, that is, on economic issues, exchange of prisoners, the issue of missing persons, then it is possible to sign a joint statement following the meeting, ”the press secretary of the Prime Minister of Armenia noted.

 Meanwhile  the Russian President, on the eve of the meeting with Aliyev and Pashinyan, held a meeting on the situation in Karabakh. According to the Kremlin press service, the meeting was attended by Secretary of the Security Council Nikolai Patrushev, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, Director of the Federal Security Service Alexander Bortnikov, Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service Sergei Naryshkin.

In addition, on January 10, Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron, where he discussed issues related to the upcoming trilateral meeting of the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia in Moscow on January 11.

“The French President expressed support for Russia's efforts to promote the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement. The importance of urgent humanitarian aid to the population affected by the clashes was emphasized, including through international organizations, ”the Kremlin’s website said. -02B-
