A book on the role of Turkey and Azerbaijan in the statehood of North Caucasian peoples was published in Ankara

Baku/17.01.22/Turan: The book "Turkish and Azerbaijani aid to the Northern Caucasus states (1918-1920)" was published in Ankara, at Gazi Kitab Evi Publishing House. The 322-page historical research book tells about the role of the two fraternal countries in the formation of independent states in the North Caucasus in 1918-1920.

 The author of the publication, doctor of historical sciences, head of the department of the Tusi APU Sevinj Aliyeva explored Turkey's assistance to the Azerbaijani Democratic Republic in 1918. Also, Turkey helped the peoples of the North Caucasus in the national liberation struggle against the Russian empire.

Note that the book contains archival documents showing the objectives of Turkish foreign policy, the interests of various socio-political organizations in this country, the impact of foreign policy and geopolitical interests in the region. S.Aliyeva revealed the facts of participation of Turkish officers and askerov, together with Azerbaijani volunteers, in the protection of North Caucasian Muslims after the Mudros ceasefire. The Turkish people and army, despite the catastrophic consequences of defeat in the World War I, did not leave the Muslims of the Caucasus in the lurch 
 in the face of the Bolshevik, Dashnak and White Guard threat.

The Turkish military was engaged in the formation of the army of the peoples of the North Caucasus and sought to support their struggle against their enemies. The activities of Turkish officers, as well as Turkish and Azerbaijani volunteers in the North Caucasus have not yet been fully disclosed, and this is prevented by nationalist forces in modern Russia.  This manifested itself most recently in the politically provocative removal of the memorial plaque on the monument to the shehids of the Caucasian Muslim Army installed by Kumyks in the village of Agach aul on December 15, 2018.

It should be remembered that Turkey supported all national independence movements in the North Caucasus. Turkish officers cooperated with the Republic of the Peoples of the North Caucasus and with the Imamate of Imam Najmuddin Gotsinsky, and the North Caucasian Emirate of Sheikh Uzun-Hadji. It was the active participation of the Turkish and Azerbaijani volunteers that helped the North Caucasian peoples to gain their independence and to unite against the new Russian threat.

On May 11th, 1918 in Batum which was occupied by the Turkish troops, at the end of negotiations with the Turkish government a delegation of North Caucasian leaders declared independence of the Union of Mountain Peoples of the North Caucasus and created a new Mountain Republic that asked for support from Turkey and Germany. On April 16th 1919 the government of the Mountain Republic headed by Pshemakho Kotsuyev even decided to include Dagestan into the Azerbaijani Democratic Republic (ADR). However, on May 18th with the support of General Khalilov the power shifted to the armed forces of the south of Russia of General Denikin. Subsequently, Denikin defeated the scattered Dagestan forces, and in 1920 Bolshevik Russia seized the ADR.

Sevinj Aliyeva's researches and books were published in Azerbaijan and Russia, in Moscow, Kazan, Rostov-on-Don, Grozny. The new book is the first in the works of S.Aliyeva, published in Turkey. -0-
