Baku/14.05.23/Turan: Sweden's representative emerged victorious in the Eurovision Song Contest final, accumulating an impressive 583 points based on votes from both the jury and the audience. This triumph marked Sweden's seventh win in the competition. Notably, Sweden had previously secured the title in 2012 with the song "Euphoria" by Lorin.
In a unique turn of events this year, Great Britain organized the competition on behalf of Ukraine, and the final took place in Liverpool. The Ukrainian band Kalush Orchestra, last year's Eurovision Song Contest winners, faced challenges in hosting the event in Kiev or any other city within the country due to the ongoing war with Russia.
The grand finale commenced with a captivating display of the Kalush Orchestra's video, showcasing the band members performing "Stefania" in the Kiev metro alongside British stars filmed in various locations across Liverpool and other British cities. However, the true surprise of the evening came with a video clip featuring Kate, the Princess of Wales, showcasing her piano skills. The clip accompanied the Kalush Orchestra's video and showcased Kate's rendition of an instrumental piece composed by Joe Price and Kojo Samuel. This recording took place earlier this month at Windsor Castle.
Following this remarkable introduction, Jamala, the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest in 2016 representing Ukraine, took the stage alongside Ukrainian singer Tina Karol (who represented Ukraine in 2006). Additionally, Ukrainian performer Verka Serdyuchka, known by the stage name Andrei Danilko, and a participant from the 2007 contest also delivered a captivating performance.
Serdyuchka presented a rendition of the song "Dancing Lasha Tumbai," which incorporated English lyrics akin to "I want to see Russia goodbye." The inclusion of these words potentially carried a symbolic message.
As for Great Britain's representative in the competition, singer May Muller took the stage with her song "I Wrote a Song." Unfortunately, her performance garnered a placement towards the bottom of the rankings, concluding the program just before the commencement of the audience voting phase.
