Another accusation has been brought against Ali Karimli, and the health of political prisoners is being undermined by hunger strikes...
A criminal case has been initiated against the chairman of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (APFP), Ali Karimli, as part of a private criminal prosecution.
Huseyn Abdullayev, a former deputy who is imprisoned, suffered a heart attack.
The health of former deputy and businessman Nazim Beydamirli has deteriorated in prison.
The imprisoned economist Fazil Gasimov has been on a hunger strike for 60 days, and former diplomat Emin Shaig Ibrahimov has been on a hunger strike for 19 days.
These topics are commented on in the program "Complex Issue" by Rufat Safarov, head of the human rights organization "Protection Line."
According to him, the persecution of Ali Karimli occurs against the backdrop of the continuous destruction of independent media and human rights organizations. The authorities do not want to hear criticism directed at them or the existence of entities that allow themselves to criticize.
The human rights defender believes that today, the political body resisting the authorities is the APFP, headed by Ali Karimli.
Safarov noted that Ali Karimli is constantly persecuted, deprived of a civil passport (international passport), and restricted in using the Internet and mobile services.
The expert also pointed out that the APFP is deprived of an office, and many of its members are imprisoned.
"13 or 14 party members have been sentenced to various terms of imprisonment on various illegal grounds and are political prisoners," Safarov said.
He believes that the latest case against Ali Karimli aims to silence him.
"The formal reason for filing a complaint against Ali Karimli in court was the alleged humiliation of the plaintiff's (a certain Aydin Aliyev) honor and dignity in various media resources. However, apart from criticizing opponents, which is one of the activities of the party chairman, nothing happened. Ali Karimli did not insult or humiliate anyone," Safarov said.
The human rights defender expressed serious concern that, as a result of the trial, Ali Karimli could be deprived of his freedom.
Touching upon the relationship between former deputy Huseyn Abdullayev and the authorities, the expert noted their personal nature and assessed them as hostile. In his opinion, the authorities are taking revenge on Abdullayev.
Commenting on the situation with other prisoners on hunger strike, the expert stated that Gestapo methods are being used against them to break their will to resist.

In a notable shift in the ongoing negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the Zangezur Corridor has been excluded from the peace agreement, raising questions about future control over this critical transport route. On August 7, Armenian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ani Badalyan confirmed Baku's announcement that the clause concerning regional communications was mutually removed from the draft peace agreement. In a world teetering on the edge of conflict, Azerbaijan finds itself in a precarious position. The recent assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh has heightened tensions in the Middle East, prompting Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry to urge its citizens to avoid Lebanon, Palestine, and Israel, and those already there to leave promptly. This move signals the potential expansion of warfare in the region.
