Armenia is a state that is not able to protect its own borders

Baku/31.08.21/Turan: On August 25, on the territory of the border-combat point of the troops of the State Border Service, located on the carriageway of the Goris-Kafan Road, near the village of Ashagi Jibikli, Gubadli region, a military Shiraliyev Ruslan Nariman oglu was suddenly attacked by two servicemen of the Armenian Armed Forces. In hand-to-hand combat, they inflicted a wound on the border guard with a bayonet-knife. Later it was reported that the Azerbaijani military blocked a section of the road near the border village of Shurnukh, through which the highway connecting the Armenian cities of Gafan and Goris passes. As a result, the communication between Armenia and Iran was interrupted.

In the evening, on August 27, an agreement was reached on the opening of the Gorus-Gafan road, part of which passes through the territory of Azerbaijan. According to Armenian media reports, Baku agreed to open the road, subject to the creation of joint Russian-Azerbaijani checkpoints along the road. Why did Armenia start talking about Russia establishing control over the Gorus-Gafan road?

Isa Gambar, head of the National Center for Strategic Thinking, commented on this issue, as well as other issues related to the processes taking place around Karabakh.

According to him, Azerbaijan's decision to block the Gorus-Kafan section of the road is correct. In conditions when provocations are regularly carried out on the border, Azerbaijan must defend its interests. Isa Gambar believes that the leadership of Armenia in the post-war period showed the utmost cunning, handing over the solution of some issues to Russia. In fact, Armenia, having transferred to Russia a number of functions inherent in an independent state, is trying to evade responsibility. At the same time, in order to avoid the signing of a peace agreement, delimitation and demarcation of borders, it resorts to various tricks.

Naturally, in these conditions, Azerbaijan must take appropriate steps to protect its interests. In such a situation, blocking the road by Azerbaijan to show Armenia its place is the right step.

He noted the absurdity of the situation when Armenia, which occupied the territory of Azerbaijan, used it in its interests and, in particular, laid roads along it. Connecting different regions of Armenia. Now, after the war, when Azerbaijan has reached its state border, the Armenians are shouting that they say Azerbaijan has approached the Armenian settlements, etc.  The Armenians commit provocations and attack on the Azerbaijani serviceman, wounding him is one of these provocations.

A road connecting the cities of Gorus and Kafan passes through the territory of Armenia, Isa Gambar said, noting that it is in a deplorable state and trucks arriving from Iran cannot overcome it. “Enough time has passed since the end of the war, and the Armenians could well put the existing roads in order. However, this was not done. This speaks of the irresponsibility of the Armenian leadership,” he said.

According to the expert, Armenia has already transferred the protection of the borders with Iran to Russia and is now transferring the protection of the border with Azerbaijan to it. In fact, this state has abandoned its functions. It remains to transfer the border with Georgia under the protection of Russia. They also transferred their economy to Russia. The Armenian leadership is also coordinating its foreign policy with Russia.

“And as long as this continues, there will be tension, there will be provocations at the border. And this tension meets the interests of all forces, except Azerbaijan. The Pashinyan government is also interested in it, which trumps that by fighting this tension, and the Armenian opposition, which, using this, put pressure on Pashinyan. It is also in Russia's interests, since it gives it a reason to maintain its presence in the region. Moscow's participation in these provocations is not excluded,” Isa Gambar said, adding that such a policy by Yerevan creates an opportunity for other countries to intervene in the region. -0—
