Citizens right to elections has been stolen - Jamil Hasanli
Baku / 12.04.18 / Turan: Extraordinary presidential elections were totally falsified and do not reflect the will of the people. The opposition will fight against the results of these elections by peaceful means, said Jamil Hasanli, chairman of the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF), in an interview with the Cətin Sual program (Difficult issue) to Turan agency, commenting on the results of the April 11 elections. He pointed out that the elections were non-alternative, in view of the non-participation of the leading opposition forces, and against the backdrop of the suppression of the fundamental rights and freedoms of citizens.
Hasanli questioned the data on 70% turnout at the elections. Even the total game in the "carousel" could not hide the passivity of voters and their boycott of elections. Asked what the further actions of the opposition will be, Hasanli said: "We will continue to struggle against the results of rigged elections within the framework of the law and by all means stipulated by the Constitution. This struggle will be conducted in the form of protest actions, on the pages of the press, on social networks. The people of Azerbaijan must express their non-recognition of the results of the elections, in which they did not participate," he said.
In fact, the constitutional right of the people to form power was abducted by the ruling regime, and according to article 6 of the Constitution, this is the gravest crime, he added. There is no confidence in these elections and in international public opinion. This is also evidenced by publications in the world's leading media, such as the Washington Post, New York, Le Monde, Liberation, and France Press. Elections are ridiculed even by the Russian press, Hasanli stressed. The Azerbaijani authorities have become famous in the world not only for economic corruption, but also for elections, he said. -03B06-
