Who and for what purpose is sowing discord in Armenia?
Baku/04.05.22/Turan: Protests in Yerevan and other regions of Armenia have been lasting for more than two weeks. Actions have been held in Yerevan since the end of last week.
The protesters demand the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and his government. The rally is attended by opposition MPs, including the second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan and the Republican Party, led by former President Serzh Sargsyan, ex-head of the National Security Service Artur Vanetsyan.
The protesters believe that the policy of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan regarding Karabakh poses a threat to "Armenia and Karabakh." Slogans are chanted at the rally: "Nikol is a traitor", "Armenia without Nikol", "Armenia without Turks". What is the purpose of these protests, change of government or obstruction of the peace process?
The political observer Oktay Gasimov comments on these events in Armenia in the program “Difficult Question”.
According to him, nothing unusual is happening in Armenia. “Traditionally, when the time comes for any decisions, then unrest will certainly begin in Armenia. Moreover, the methods and ways of introducing confusion are the most diverse - this happened with the use of armed formations, and through terror, and with the help of rallies and demonstrations,” Gasimov said.
According to the observer, in addition to the mindset of the Armenian society itself, there are a number of factors that influence political decision-making in Armenia. Firstly, it is the Diaspora, secondly, the Armenian Apostolic Church, and thirdly, of course, external forces that contributed to the creation of the Armenian state and manipulate it. And the most influential among these forces is the Russian Empire.
According to Gasimov, due to the recently observed increase in EU activity towards achieving peace and stability in the South Caucasus, some progress has been made. The negotiation process, organized on the initiative of EU President Charles Michel - two meetings in Brussels and one meeting in the format of a video conference, began to bear its first fruits. At the same time, the situation in Armenia began to heat up.
Qasimov claims that Russia is responsible for this surge of rally activity in Yerevan.
Why Russia? Russia does not support reaching an agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia through direct negotiations. Because this will lead to the leveling of its influence in the region. Russia certainly needs to be a participant in the negotiations in order to keep their progress under control and in no case prevent the conclusion of a peace treaty. That is why it is making every effort to maintain tension in the region,” he says.
The puppeteer of the processes that are going on in Yerevan is Moscow, the expert is convinced: “Robert Kocharyan, Serzh Sargsyan, Artur Vanetsyan and others are representatives of the Karabakh clan controlled by Moscow. With the help of these figures, Russia is trying to put pressure on Pashinyan and disrupt direct negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.”--0--
