Baku/18.05.22/Turan: The U.S. Embassy in Baku brought together eight U.S. companies and institutions under the U.S. pavilion at the Caspian Agro 2022 agricultural exhibition.

According to the Embassy, the U.S. pavilion enables farmers and agribusiness owners to meet in person with representatives from eight American manufacturers and suppliers of fertilizers, pest control and management, drip irrigation, mobile cooling, aquaponics, and hydroponic farming solutions.  For this purpose, USAID identified potential firms interested in establishing or renewing their representation efforts in the Azerbaijani market.  The participating companies – Dragon-Line, Trécé, Brandt, ZipGrow, Inc., Store It Cold, Symbiotic Aquaponic, and Grow More – seek to partner with local farmers and businesses, strengthening economic ties between the United States and Azerbaijan in the agricultural sector.  In addition, the University of the District of Columbia is presenting educational opportunities in the agricultural field.

U.S. Ambassador Earle (Lee) Litzenberger, USAID Mission Director Jaidev Singh, and Minister of Agriculture of Azerbaijan Inam Karimov visited the U.S. pavilion with their teams and spoke with each exhibiting U.S. company.

Ambassador Litzenberger said:  “The U.S. Embassy is excited to continue facilitating the entry of new American businesses and technologies into the Azerbaijani agricultural sector, as well as to help strengthen the presence of U.S. firms already active in the country.  By expanding access to innovative U.S. products and services, we are helping Azerbaijan better capitalize on its enormous agricultural potential.  U.S. companies have developed and manufactured cutting-edge technologies in agriculture and irrigation that are changing the way growers and other market participants do business.”

For the last few years, USAID has placed increased emphasis on developing business relationships between U.S. and Azerbaijani agribusinesses.  For this purpose, USAID identifies the potential needs of local agribusinesses for innovative technologies that could be supplied from U.S. suppliers through various resources, such as U.S.-based Azerbaijani consulting and trade firms and other contacts made individually by USAID’s local and international staff.  Thanks to these efforts, USAID has achieved substantial progress in catalyzing and facilitating increased U.S. exports of innovative agricultural products and technology to Azerbaijan.

USAID Mission Director Singh added, “Our Private Sector Activity is forming beneficial ties between the U.S. and Azerbaijani agricultural sectors, which is helping to increase crop yields and sharing critical horticultural knowledge with Azerbaijani farmers.  USAID will continue to promote these linkages to further develop agricultural capacity in Azerbaijan.”

Funding for U.S. participation in Caspian Agro 2022 agricultural exhibition is being provided by USAID’s Azerbaijan Private Sector Activity (PSA) as well as by the U.S. Department of State and Department of Commerce.  In addition to expanding USAID’s efforts to help boost the quality and efficiency of the country’s horticultural production and value-added processing, as well as penetrate new export markets, PSA is also helping to catalyze the growth of rural agriculture and agritourism. Since 1998, USAID has provided significant co-investment in private sector development in Azerbaijan.

The team of professionals in the Department of State’s Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs advances U.S. economic diplomacy worldwide, including through the Department’s network of over 1,500 Economic Officers at our embassies and consulates.  The U.S. Department of Commerce webpage provides information for small businesses, licensing and patent applications, economic data, and other important information for U.S. businesses.
