Azerbaijan Studies Prospects to Connect to Project Viking Train
Azerbaijan considers participation in the project Viking Train as the possibility of expanding the containerized freight traffic on the international transport corridor North-South. "The turnover of goods between Northern Europe, Iran, India, Pakistan and Arab countries is high. Construction of the missing link in the chain Astara (Azerbaijan) Astara – Rasht - Kazvin (Iran) will increase the importance of Azerbaijan in this transport corridor," the press service of the State Railways said.
* The combined transport train Viking is a joint project of the railways of Lithuania, Belarus and Ukraine, stevedoring companies and ports Klaipeda, Ilyichevsk and Odessa. The route passes through Ukraine, Belarus and Lithuania and connects the chain of maritime container and piggyback lines of the Baltic region with similar systems of the Black, Mediterranean and Caspian Seas. ---08D
