In December essentials rose strongly
Baku/22.01.14/Turan : In December last year, the State Statistics Committee , which usually shows cautious approach to indicators of inflation , recorded large price jumps for certain types of food. However, consumer price inflation, which is determined by food of 151 food items , was not much more than 2.6% on a monthly basis , whereas for individual essential goods prices rose by 25-35%.
According to the SSC , fruit and vegetables rose by 6.2 % and 9.9 %, respectively. While the retail price of cucumbers grew in the past month by 35.4 % , potatoes - 29%, onions - 25.4% , sweet pepper - 23.5% , tomatoes - 7.4% , greens and cabbage - 4.1% etc.
This month bakery and cereals rose by 0.2 % , meat - 0.3% , fish - 5.3% , dairy products and butter - 0.7%. The cost of eggs has gone up since last June and in December added to the price by 7.3 %. Smokers experienced an increase in tobacco prices by an average of 9%.
Experts believe that inflation primarily hits the pocket of the poor , including the disabled and elderly, who mainly spend their money on food. 08B
