Milestone Achievement: West Azeri Platform Crosses 1 Billion Barrels Mark in ACG Project
bp and Consortium Partners Celebrate Significant Production Milestone
bp, serving as the operator of the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) oil field, proudly announces a monumental achievement on behalf of its esteemed partners in the ACG project – SOCAR, MOL, INPEX, Equinor, ExxonMobil, TPAO, ITOCHU, ONGC Videsh – as the West Azeri platform surpasses 1 billion barrels in total production. This milestone, reached on December 12, marks a remarkable contribution to the overall ACG project, which has seen a total production of 4.3 billion barrels since its inception in November 1997.
Elkhan Mammadov, bp’s Vice President of Production for the Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye region, expressed his appreciation for the achievement, stating, “This is the second ACG platform that has crossed over the one billion barrels line to continue its second billion barrels of total production journey. Central Azeri was the first platform to proudly reach this achievement much earlier than others – in July 2021."
He continued, "And now we have West Azeri as our second billionaire platform, and we hope to continue this remarkable series of success stories. I would like to congratulate all the teams who have contributed to this brilliant success and thank them all for their safe and efficient performance and excellent delivery. My special thanks to those members of the West Azeri family who have been part of this great asset since its first day.”
The West Azeri platform, one of the seven production platforms in the Caspian, currently hosts approximately 200 workers, predominantly Azerbaijani nationals, including the platform’s two managers. Since 2005, over 40 wells and multiple sidetracks have been drilled on West Azeri, with 35 of them currently active - 26 producers and nine water injectors.
Highlighting the platform's historical significance, one of the first wells that came online in 2005, C-06, remains a top producer well with an initial production rate of 35,000 barrels of oil per day. To date, the well has delivered a total production of 80 million barrels. Presently, West Azeri's daily production stands at an impressive 85,000 barrels of oil.
This achievement reinforces the success and longevity of the ACG project, showcasing the collaborative efforts of the consortium partners in contributing to Azerbaijan's prominent position in the global energy landscape.--0--
