Ministry of Agriculture: Wheat Imports to Reduce Considerably
Massive collection of wheat began in Azerbaijan. This year, grain growers expect to achieve a higher yield than in 2015 (31 quintals / ha).
According to the head of the Plant Growing Department of the Ministry of Agriculture Imran Jumshudov, this year the level of technical readiness and provision of fertilizers and pesticides was higher than in 2015. "Azerbaijan provides the need for milling wheat (1.7 million tons) at 70% from its own resources. This year the figure will be even higher," he said.
Over 2,400 combine grain harvesters have been sent to the wheat fields. This year, 927.4 thousand hectares of land are used for grain crops.
According to the State Customs Committee, in 2015 Azerbaijan imported 1 million 353 thousand tons of wheat. ----08B
